Logan: A Rusty Steel Armchair Inspired by Wolverine

An Unconventional Design by Flavio Franco

Flavio Franco, the renowned designer behind the Logan armchair, drew inspiration from two distinct sources. Firstly, he wanted to create a piece that played with light and shadows, allowing them to penetrate the structure and create a mesmerizing visual display. Secondly, Franco was inspired by the iconic claws of Marvel's Wolverine character, which led to the chair being aptly named Logan.

What sets the Logan armchair apart is its striking lines and angles, giving it an unconventional and dynamic appearance. The chair is formed by a set of three triangles, each serving a specific purpose. The first triangle acts as the base of the structure, the second serves as the seat and back base, and the third triangle provides a rest for the back.

Made from 5mm oxidized steel, the Logan armchair showcases meticulous craftsmanship. The weld points connecting the pieces were strategically placed to ensure stability and safety. Despite its seemingly delicate composition, the armchair is able to support the weight of a sitting person with ease.

The production process of the Logan armchair involves cutting steel bars into triangles and welding them together to achieve the desired width. After assembly, the armchair undergoes a series of acid and sea salt baths to initiate the oxidation process. Once fully oxidized, the steel is meticulously sanded and coated with a matte lacquer, resulting in its distinctive rusty appearance.

Measuring at 630mm x 960mm x 800mm, the Logan armchair is a statement piece that seamlessly blends contemporary design with industrial aesthetics. Its unique form and play with light and shadows make it a captivating addition to any space.

During its debut at Art Rio in September 2017, the Logan armchair garnered attention and admiration for its innovative design. The project, which started in June 2017 and was completed in July 2017 in Teresina, Piaui, showcases the dedication and creativity of Flavio Franco and his team.

Recognized for its excellence, the Logan armchair was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2018. This prestigious award celebrates designs that exhibit technical and creative skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
